Beautiful AND Smart, You Can Be Both!

I was watching Funny Face (another Audrey Hepburn movie that I would most certainly recommend!) today and loved it! It's a wonderful fashion movie, and I love anything starring Audrey. However, the movie contained an all too familiar message: women are either beautiful or smart, but not both. Granted that when the movie was made (1957) it was a much more widely accepted ideal, but the remnants of this damaging way of thought are still prominent today. Take models for example, they are expected to be gorgeous but we never think of them as particularly gifted in the brains department. Where as the girl "brains" are always portrayed as dorky and butt ugly. Ladies I am here to tell you that you can be both! Here's a short list of women that are (or were) gorgeous and smart!

Natalie Portman

Did you know that Natalie graduated from Harvard? She did, with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. She also speaks four languages fluently. Oh and did I mention she's gorgeous?

Kate Beckinsale

This Hollywood hottie studied French and Russian literature at Oxford.  She is an award winning author and speaks German, French, English, and Russian. Wow.

Hedy Lamarr

A beautiful film star from the 30s and 40s, Hedy is best known as her roles as a seductress because she was just THAT sexy. And her work with scientists resulted in the communication technology used by cell phones and wireless internet. Well done.
