What says Easter better than a chocolate overdose? This week I may have consumed enough chocolate to feed a small country for a month, and gone through a continuous sugar rush then crash cycle. Sound familiar? Unless you have the self-discipline of General Patton, you've probably gone through a similar love-hate relationship with chocolate this Easter season. Maybe it's time for a post-easter detox! This morning Channel 7 did a spot about what a post-Easter detox should look like. They recommend a whole foods only diet for about 10 days to set you back on track after your Easter indulgences. They stress drinking lots of water and not eating anything packaged. Wheat, gluten, dairy, and red meat should be avoided and stimulants (such as coffee and sugar) should be given the ax as well. A sample day would have you eating:
Brown Rice Porridge (made with rice milk)
Nut Bar
Frittata
2 pieces of fruit
Grilled Fish
Hummus and Veggies
2-3 L of water a day
This is a LOT of food for one day! They say that if you're constantly eating the detox foods, it makes it much easier to do. We've all done those diets where you eat next to nothing and feel like shit because of it, this isn't one of them! They do warn you that you will feel sluggish at first because of the lack of simple sugars and caffeine through your day but that you will only notice for the first day or two. I think it's worth a shot! I'll let you guys know how it goes for me and if you have any tips for detoxing after a mountain of chocolate leave them in the comments below!
