We all know that vitamins are important to our health, but they also help you look great! By improving your health from the inside out, getting the DRI (daily recommended intake) of certain vitamins can make your hair, skin, and nails look great. Here's a list of the nine most important "beauty vitamins" and the foods you can them from. Remember that most of these vitamins can also be found in a standard multivitamin or supplement, but your body best absorbs vitamins it gets from food. You can use this information to make your next grocery list and you'll be on your way to a happier, healthier, more glowy you!
Disclaimer: I am not a doctor or health professional. I'm just passing along information that I have found and what works well for me!
1. Vitamin E - E is a wonder vitamin for your skin! Vitamin E creams have long been used to minimize skin irritation, scars, even burns. It is an antioxidant so it reduces inflammation and protects skin form damage. It's especially good for people with dry flaky skin because of how it moisturizes from the inside out.
Found in: Fruit juice, spinach, nuts (and their oils!), brocoli, asparagus, vitamin E capsules
2. Vitamin B-There are eight different B vitamins, but all of them are responsible for cell metabolism. This means that they boost your metabolism and can help improve the way your hair and skin looks! It also helps to prevent your skin from becoming too oily.
Found in: Tuna, shellfish, bananas, avocado, chicken, whole grains, milk, beans, eggs, nuts, vitamin B complex supplements
3. Biotin-Technically Biotin is a B vitamin (B7 to be exact!), but I feel that it deserves it's own special mention. Taking a Biotin supplement can help to make your nails grow long and strong, make your hair long and shiny, as well as boosting energy. I would recommend picking up a bottle of biotin just to try it for yourself. It's inexpensive and everyone I know that has tried it has had wonderful results.
Found in: Biotin can be found in certain foods but I suggest just taking an additional Biotin supplement if you want the extra boost!
4. Omega-3 Fatty Acids- These special fats are great for your hair! They make it look super shiny and conditioned. I also noticed a lack of frizz after I start taking them! They're also great for the active chica because they reduce inflammation and muscle soreness.
Found In: Soybeans, salmon, tuna, flaxseed, walnuts, kale, spinach, brussel sprouts
5. Vitamin K- This helps get rid of those pesky under eye circles, which I suffer dearly from!
Found In: Kale, spinach, swiss chard, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, parsley, mustard greens
6. Vitamin D- Known as the happy vitamin, it is also important for taking care of your bones and teeth. It also combats dry skin and will help get rid of those forehead flakes!
Found In: You can get it easiest by being in the sun without sunscreen for 15 minutes three times a week.
7. Vitamin C- Everyone knows vitamin C can help boost your metabolism but it also helps produce collagen, which is great for your skin!
Found In: Citrus fruits, spinach, berries, apples, pineapples, green peppers, tomatoes, brussel sprouts
8. Vitamin A- It can give you beautiful dewy skin and a healthy scalp (which means healthy hair).
Found In: Carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, cantaloupe, grapefruit, apricots, eggs, kale
9. Zinc- When taken consistently, Zinc can really help you clear up any acne you may have. Many dermatologist will recommend this to their patients if they want a more natural solution to their skin problems.
Found In: Zinc is found in food but to get a larger dosage it's much easier to take a ZInc for Acne supplement that can be found at your nearest pharmacy.
