DIY Hot Oil Treatment

My mom likes to tell me that when she did my hair it was always shiny and smooth, my mother is delusional. My hair has always been a super dry and frizzy mess. This mess got even worse (as you can see in my lovely before picture to the left) after I started coloring and heat styling my hair. Below are the directions to make my DIY Hot Oil Treatment! It works WONDERS for my hair and I definitely recommend it to any one with dull, dry, damaged hair like mine!

First, you're going to need your ingredients! I used Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Agave Nectar and Organic Coconut Oil. Start by pouring a mixture of olive oil and agave into your dish (I used a 3:1 ration with EVOO as the dominant ingredient).
Microwave this bad boy for about 30 seconds.
Have a snack while you wait, I'm partial to those little autumn pumpkins.
Once your EVOO and agave has done its 30 seconds (be careful your dish will be hot!), pour in a drizzle of coconut oil (I used about a tablespoon but exact measurements aren't important for this to work!). You should never microwave coconut oil because it kills all the nutrients!
Smear the mixture all in your hair, concentrating on your ends. WARNING: It will be a hot, sticky, greasy mess! I recommend gloves :)

Once you've saturated your strands, wrap your head in saran wrap. Yes, saran wrap. Be forewarned, you're going to look super duper attractive during this step. Warn your significant other ahead of time so they aren't blown away by your sexiness.
You can put on a shower cap and sleep with the mixture in overnight, or you can blown dry your head for about a half hour. Holding a blow dryer for a half hour can be tiring so I suggest rigging up some contraption like I did so you can read or facebook creep while you're hair is becoming silky smooth.
I chose to read Lauren Conrad's "Style." I recommend it! Once your half hour is up, shampoo the mixture out of your hair. I actually had to shampoo mine twice to get all the agave out! Then use a super creamy conditioner (I used one that comes in a Loreal hair color box, weird but they're my favorite!). Let your hair air dry and use a towel to squeeze out any excess water.
These are my results and they really speak for themselves! Since doing the treatment my hair is so much silkier, shinier and more manageable. Considering this treatment was done all with stuff I already had, it's pretty good value!

Let me know if it works well for you too!
